Abstract: Introduction: As most autism research focuses on children and adolescents and the prevalence of autistic adults continues to grow, there is a demand for an examination of autism in older adulthood. Recent literature identifies the experiences of autistic older adults as an under-researched area and highlights a growing need for age-appropriate services (Hong et al., 2023; Patten et al., 2024; Stringfellow et al., 2024; Tse et al., 2022). Purpose: The project developed an aging support framework for a community-based organization serving autistic and neurodivergent adults. The primary aim of the project is to improve staff knowledge and confidence in supporting the aging-related needs of participants. Approach: Prior to development, a scoping review and needs assessment were conducted to gather evidence and learn about the identified need. The framework includes an overview of the evidence, recommendations for adaptations/accommodations, resources and tools, and steps for implementation and sustainability. A presentation based on the framework was delivered to staff and a retrospective pre-post questionnaire was developed to obtain data. Outcomes: A total of 21 staff completed the questionnaire. Staff demonstrated an increase in knowledge and confidence on all items. Responses showed positive perceptions of framework effectiveness and identified themes for future recommendations. Implications and Discussion: The capstone project expands on current evidence to demonstrate how programs traditionally serving young autistic and neurodivergent adults can adapt their services to meet aging-related needs. It also highlights the value of occupational therapy in supporting healthy aging initiatives.
