What's Mission Got to Do With It? A Liberal Arts perspective on the needs of our time. Since the beginning of the Great Recession of 2008, liberal arts education has faced yet another wave of uncertainty and crisis. Pundits and politicians perpetuate the narrative of the uselessness of a liberal arts degree in a cynical bid to pander to their constituents. We need better narratives to change the conversation. Testimony and data demonstrate that the liberal arts are now more valuable and relevant than ever. How will St. Catherine University be a leader in changing the conversation about liberal arts education in the 21st century? Amy Hamlin is the Alberta Huber, CSJ, Endowed Chair in the Liberal Arts and Associate Professor of Art History. As a scholar and an educator, she brings her disciplinary lens and pedagogical practices to her Mission work in cultivating the liberal arts at St. Catherine University.
